David Harrison, 19, is a junior organ performance major at
Mississippi College and a student of Dr. Robert Knupp. Since beginning his study of organ in 2005, he has been an active church musician, recitalist, and competitor. He has won several awards for his performances, including first prize in the Clarence Dickinson Organ Competition (2008, 2009), and the Organ Scholarship Award at Mississippi College (2009). David has performed recitals in many venues across the state, including his home church, First Baptist Church of Pascagoula, First-Trinity Presbyterian Church of Laurel, and Oxford-University United Methodist Church of Oxford. He has also participated in master classes with famous organists such as Paul Jacobs and Janette Fishell.
This month, David will represent the Jackson-area chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) in the Regional Competition for Young Organists, which will be held in Greensboro, North Carolina. The first-prize winner of the regional competition will be eligible to participate in the Rising Stars Concert at the AGO National Convention.
